1st field visit and training in Stung Treng (Cambodia)

The visit to Stung Treng was held on June 7 to 11, 2010. The event was highlighted by the presence of the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, Meas Borin and the Vice Governor of Stung Treng Province, H.E. Veth Chhay.

The training was delivered to 27 representatives from different districts, municipalities and communes of the Stung Treng Province, as well as to representatives from the neighbouring Kratié Province.

During the opening ceremonies, H.E. Veth Chhay, welcomed the opportunity to participate in the DReAMS project, stating that "the project realizing DReAMS will foster local capacity with 2 systems, ecoBudget and PDMS. The marriage of these systems will help us address local issues on poverty and effective and efficient natural resource management while economic development is enhanced".

The field visit was used as an opportunity to introduce the project to various stakeholders and to train local government staff in the two systems. The training included simulation exercises following the steps of ecoBUDGET. The field visit resulted in the identification of 3 sites within the province where the toolkit of DReAMS will be implemented, as well as the identification of an appropriate structure which will spearhead the implementation of the project.
